As a rehabilitation institution for the initial vocational training of young people with mental impairments and/or learning and multiple disabilities and/or with learning and multiple disabilities, the BBW Mosbach-Heidelberg looks after young people in training, vocational school and boarding school and contributes not only to vocational integration but also to social integration. The BBW has about 150 employees. There are currently about 220 training places in (at present) 30 state-recognised and specially regulated occupations in the fields of business and administration, metalworking, paint, woodworking and bicycle technology, horticulture/agriculture, nutrition and home economics, warehousing, cleaning technology, building and environmental services as well as health/wellness and cosmetics and IT. In addition, there are currently about 50 places available for vocational preparation measures, as well as over 60 places in the special vocational school – a one-year full-time vocational preparation school (state-recognised alternative school). This is where adolescents and young adults with learning and/or multiple disabilities who, due to their cognitive or mental development or due to the severity of their disability are not yet ready for a profession or choice of profession, gain the ability to learn different professions.
The BBW’s catchment area is nationwide. The trainees are accommodated in boarding schools or in boarding houses or external residential groups. BBW has a quality management system set up in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 2015.
Internationalisation efforts are beginning to bear fruit in the company. BBW participates in many projects abroad as part of the Erasmus+ program. In addition, in key action 2 we have a school partnership with Hungary and Slovakia, a strategic partnership with intellectual output and a strategic partnership exchange of good practice. For VET staff and apprentices, there is the possibility to do internships abroad in other European countries.
Diakonie-Klinik Mosbach (DKM)“ as an important cooperative partner of the BBW unites the clinics for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, neuropsychiatry and psychotherapy and internal medicine and supplies a region of 300.000 inhabitants. About 140 Staff-members, on 104 clinical places (wards, day-clinics) and ambulances treat 5.000 children and adults per year about the whole spectrum of mental disorders, e.g. Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorder, Personality Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Attachment Disorder, Autism-Spectrum-Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and others. DKM is specialised on the treatment of people with learning disabilities and mental disorders.
